Jenang Jaket Pertama

JENANG JAKET PERTAMA

Written by Group 3

Jenang Jaket Pertama is a Micro and Small and Medium Enterprises located in Mersi, East Purwokerto District, Banyumas Regency. Jenang itself is one of the traditional foods typical of Banyumas, while 'Jaket' itself is an abbreviation of Jenang Asli Ketan because in the past most of the jenang products were a mixture of glutinous rice and ordinary rice. The first jenang jaket was founded by Mr. Suhardja as a family business which has now been passed on by Mr. Salimin as the second generation.

The production of Jenang Jaket Pertama started with a small cauldron of three kilograms which was then offered to the people closest to them to be tasted first. Although this business continues to grow, Jenang Jaket Pertama does not have a branch, but one of the family members set up the same business with a different place of production. Until before the pandemic occurred, this business continued to develop.

Jenang Jaket Pertama has a variety of products, both self-produced and selling products from outside. The main product is Jenang Jaket which has variants such as original and sesame. The price for the Original Jenang Jaket is Rp. 16,000 and for the Sesame Jenang Jaket, it is Rp. 17,000. Jenang Jaket Pertama also sells various souvenirs typical of Banyumas which are produced outside of Jenang Jaket Pertama, such as Mino, Sale, and various Chips.

Jenang jaket uses glutinous rice flour, coconut milk, brown sugar or palm sugar, vanilla, salt, and granulated sugar as raw materials. The production process begins with boiling coconut milk in a cauldron until it boils and then cools. After the coconut milk reaches room temperature, the coconut milk is mixed with brown sugar or palm sugar, vanilla, salt, sugar, and glutinous rice flour until evenly distributed. Then the dough is raised back on the stove and cooked for about 3 hours. After that, the finished jenang is placed in a winnowing tray and left overnight. One cauldron can produce 8 winnowing trays.

Jenang jaket that have gone through the cooling process, will then be cut based on their weight. The packaging process itself will be adjusted according to its needs. For example, products that will be sold as usual will be individually wrapped in plastic weighing four ounces. Then, it will be re-wrapped in plastic as many as 16 pieces per pack. As for purchases in large quantities, the product will be put back into the bamboo basket.

Jenang Jaket Pertama uses traditional marketing techniques, namely by marketing it to neighbors and close relatives, then Jenang Jaket Pertama products are spread by word of mouth. Jenang Jaket Pertama still uses the traditional way of selling jenang, namely selling it directly at the shop in front of the jenang production site. Jenang Jacket Pertama also has not collaborated with online delivery services such as GoFood, GrabFood, and others.

The covid-19 pandemic period for more than 2 years has greatly impacted the production and sales of jenang by Jenang Jaket Pertama. Due to the very decline in demand, the production also decreased. This means that from the beginning it was able to produce 8 stoves, now only 1 stove per production. The non-cooperation of Jenang Jacket Pertama with online delivery services also has an impact on consumers who buy less.

In addition, Jenang Jacket Pertama also has many competitors, such as Sundus, Jenang Original Jacket, Jenang Diansari, Jenang Puspasari, and Jenang Jacket Special, which further tightens the competition.
